Three kinds of scholarships you should know
1. Institutional scholarships
Awarded by the university itself. Usually merit-based. Smaller amounts (10 to 50% tuition discount) but much higher hit rate. Most of our partner universities offer entry scholarships for strong applicants.
2. Government scholarships
Fully-funded but extremely competitive. Examples: DAAD (Germany), Chevening (UK), Vanier (Canada). Application deadlines are 9 to 12 months before intake.
3. External scholarships
Funded by foundations and non-profits. Examples: MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program (covers fully-funded undergrad and postgrad at partner universities). Highly selective but life-changing if you win.
What it takes
For any competitive scholarship:
- A high IELTS score (7.0+)
- A clear, specific statement of purpose tied to a development goal
- Two strong recommendation letters
- Demonstrated leadership, community work, or research
- Patience for a 6 to 9 month process
When PEC adds value
We help you shortlist scholarships you're competitive for (not just any scholarship), and we work on your application materials so they tell a coherent story. The biggest mistake we see: students apply to every scholarship instead of focusing on three or four where they fit the profile.
